Happy for you, Alex. You make a very good teacher, artist, and designer. I hope you get more business than you are able to handle single-handed. Martin is certainly someone to miss. alexandra anuales (FA Industrial Design '07) said:hi tita. will ...

Profile Information

A little about yourself as an LCCian in LCC (include year graduated if a graduate)
Fine Arts major in Industrial Design. Graduated in 2007.

if you ask me to describe LCC in one "honest" word... it would be (drumroll please...) "BITTERSWEET"!!! the thing i hated most about my stay there was also the thing that molded me into what I am now. ironic isn't it? but I'm more than celebrating! hahaha I just love what I am now and I wouldn't have been this way if I studied in any other school!

from the time decided to enroll, the bittersweet emotion of being there started. I was told I got the highest mark among those who took the entrance exam in years (whopee!!! I'd do cartwheels if I could! hahaha) BUT! unfortunately... since my grade in english in my HS report card was only 84, I'd have to take up english01 (a class where they teach you what a noun is... the other parts of a sentence... and the nightmare continues). those who got grades below 85 in HS english had to take that subject. Ok... why even bother with the entrance exam? it was a total DUH! moment but I had no choice but to enroll the subject. funny thing is... english01 Actually did me good! my grade in that subject brought up my average in 1st sem so I was able to qualify for a 75% discount on the 2nd sem! hahaha (the Lord has ways we can't fully understand doesn't he?)

my first year in college was a total blast! I just realized I enrolled in the perfect course! not much studying just CRAFTS!!! oh how i loved school! just the sight of LCC excites me and makes me want to do more! Crafty plate works were abundant and I loved showing off my work to my family and they were really great audiences as no one ever expected a member of the family to really concentrate on art. It was also in 1st year where I met my best friends and of course, my loved one Martin. It was also during the summer after first year where I actually started earning from my course. I painted bags and was really happy that I was earning my own money to supplement my worldly desires! I was at the top of the world proudly saying I was a fine arts student majoring in Industrial Design in LCC.

then the downfall... second year was the mark of reality... the burning passion for the arts went down as we rarely had classes. 36 units in one sem and yet my day was empty. it was downright boring! it was in second year when my classmates and I realized we needn't rush to school for major subjects... there won't be a teacher there anyway... and during days that they actually decided to hold a class, it would be us 6 (yes there's only 6 of us and I'm the only girl) who decided not to show up. it was really funny that way... a whole semester had passed and our plate works for a single teacher doesn't even add up to ten. saja e! hahaha we had lots lots lots of time and we spent them going around down town looking for cheap thrills. my classmates were really fun! if we were in school at around 3 pm we would walk to the back of the high school building and buy orange crusted eggs! tokneneng daw? or kwek kwek? to which we didn't mind as long as it was yummy and it had our daily dose of needed germs to keep us normal living beings! we also had breakfast at tikboys every friday morning! pork bbq and steaming hot rice smothered in chicken oil and salt was the usual fare. or lucky me pancit canton was also a favorite among us. I loved spending time with them. they taught me a lot! 2nd year was also the time I met David Villanueva of Illonggo Interational in a workshop about fiberglass at the ARFIEN lobby. we just chatted and he spoke well of my course and how I should concentrate on it and stressed the importance of anthropometry and ergonomics. two very important factors in industrial design and yet all we know about it are the definitions.

3rd year was an excessive dose of boredom. though we enjoyed our carefree school life... we knew we had to do something. we had a lot to learn! and obviously complaining about our teachers to area chairs proved to be no help. so we did things our own way... we learned by ourselves. in second year, I started to bead and i loved it. and by the time I was in 3rd year, I decided to devote my time to this wonderful hobby. since we had lots of time in between our minor classes, I always brought a beading toolbox to school. I'd bead until I realized I was late for my minor subjects whose teachers were way concerned about being late. warnings warnings and warnings. and some more warnings. and even more warnings! It was funny and startling but i just can't help it. my beading bug was severe and it eventually spread out to my friends. i bought extra pliers and taught them how and eventually we were all beading and selling! it was a really good way to bond with my friends! 3rd year was also the time when the city of Sagay called for designers to help with their sinigayan queen festival. the 2nd and 3rd year fine arts student were tasked to help and it was really fun as we got to tour around sagay (particularly molocaboc island) and we were actually paid to have done those things. the organizer for that project? david villanueva! for the length of time we worked on that project, david was really a great mentor and taught us all a lot. too bad that on the day of the festival... exactly on the day we were supposed to leave for the pageant night... I had chicken pox!!!! gaaah! the horror! hahaha oh! And another thing I loved about third year was Alta Custura! technically in our time, only the advertising arts major were allowed as they had a subject in fashion design. but i begged sir bamboo to let me join the paper brides category because I really wanted to make a dress out of paper. thankfully he allowed me so I was soaring high creating that gown out of paper. and my friend Grendel willingly modeled it for me. i won best in category, and she won as the best female model (ya as if shes not Philippines' next top model now).

fourth year... my college life coming to an end... huhuhu the whole point of the year was the big word with 6 letters... THESIS. i was supposed to create a "multifunctional and space saving bed". I submitted the proposal and it was approved. i started my research then called david villanueva. when I told him about my proposal, he insisted I meet with him and asked me if that was what I really wanted. i said no I want jewelry. so we trashed that multifunctional bed into space and worked on a new line of costume jewelry! It was pure delight digging deep into jewelry. and even though most of the faculty frowned upon David for personal or professional reasons whatsoever... he was my greatest mentor in the field of arts.

And since my thesis was about jewelry, i got to meet Ingrid Haufe, German jewelry designer and consultant of Cebu Fashion Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters foundation. i was really thrilled that during the workshop, when the big names in the local jewelry scene and everybody else was asking for her number... she came to me and asked for mine! pure joy! she invited me to cebu, helped me with my research, and even contracted me to do some beading designs for her.

Also, In the midst of our college life, the dear son of our friend suffered from leukemia. it was then that I saw the values of an LCCian put to work. as a community of friends, everyone tried to help to the best they can. everyone in their own way showed compassion. my friends and i made non profit accessories, some sold their beautiful paintings and the proceeds of which all were all given to help ease their financial burdens. but as all things happen for a reason, all we can do now it to pray for the soul of little red.

To others and myself, we may say that Industrial design students in LCC are "pinabay.an". studying it there seems questionable. but it was in that state... in an "ignored by all" state was I able to develop myself to be what i am I now. in those free times, friendships were strengthened. learning was intensified, and growth was an apparent result. If we weren't ignored then, I don't even know if I would be beading now. all the free time allows an artist to explore everything there is she wants to know of. and if you ask me if i would want my college education to be any other way? well... let's not talk about that! hahaha

oh my! did i just write a nobela? hahaha it was fun thinking about how i spent four important years of my life. hehehe
A little about yourself after LCC
I beaded a lot actually... then my parents thought I should have a feel of being an employee first before having my own business. so i did what almost every graduate considers (admit it... you thought of it even if it was against it)... call center agent! hahaha I was a tech support agent at teleperformance but I quit in 2 months. i couldn't take it. so my parents had me help in their businesses. and because of that, I had to go back to school and take up units in education and pursue a masters degree in educational management.
A little about yourself now
I stopped working for my parents since I was really getting depressed by not working on my beads... I'm a quarter done in finishing my masters degree, i just took the teachers board praying that I passed, and now... I'm a full time jewelry designer trying to make ends meet. i spent a lot to register my business and to cover expenses for starting up. my savings since college are now wiped out, the price of gasoline continues to burn a hole in my pocket, and yet... I'M HAPPY!

I'M A LICENSED TEACHER NOW TOO! hahaha
